Why I Started Real Talk Rivera

Before we get into workouts, wellness tips, or honest conversations about motherhood — I want to share my story.

Because the truth is, when I became a mom, I didn’t always feel balanced, energized, or strong. And I definitely didn’t always feel like I had permission to slow down and take care of myself.

Who I Am — and Who I’ve Been

I’ve spent over 15 years in law enforcement, first as a Norfolk Police Detective and then as a DEA Special Agent. I’ve led raids, handled high-stakes investigations, and operated in environments that demanded everything from me — mentally, physically, emotionally.

But nothing challenged me more than becoming a mother.

Motherhood cracked me open in ways I wasn’t prepared for. Suddenly, I wasn’t just responsible for showing up at work — I was responsible for showing up for this tiny, powerful human who depended on me for everything.

That’s when the real shift began.

What I Realized

I realized that taking care of myself wasn’t a luxury — it was survival. I couldn’t give from an empty cup. And more importantly, I didn’t want to just “get through” motherhood. I wanted to feel strong, whole, and connected in it.

That’s what led me to create Real Talk Rivera.

What This Space Is About

This blog is for the moms who feel like they’ve been put last for too long.
It’s for the women trying to reclaim their health without guilt.
It’s for those who want structure — but also room to breathe.

Here you’ll find honest posts about:

  • Fitness and getting strong at any stage
  • Postpartum recovery and rebuilding your identity
  • Nutrition, holistic wellness, and practical self-care
  • Mom life, mindset shifts, and a little real talk when you need it

Who I Am Now

Today, I’m a wife and mom to a bright, adventurous, and hilarious toddler girl. I co-sleep, breastfeed, and do daily activities with her. We’re a bilingual household (Spanish + English), and we value travel, rhythm, and presence.

I still lift heavy things — physically and figuratively. I’m training for another bikini competition next year (a full decade since my last one). And yes, I still believe in pizza night.

I also hold:

  • A Ph.D. (ABD) in Physiology and Health
  • A Master of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Science
  • Undergraduate degrees in Spanish Literature and Business Management
  • Certifications in Sports Nutrition, Fitness Training, Yoga, Meditation, Herbalism, Reiki, Naturopathy, Prenatal & Postpartum Fitness, and Pediatric Nutrition

But more than anything, I’m committed to showing up honestly — and helping other women do the same.

Why It Matters

Motherhood shouldn’t be an excuse to lose yourself. It should be the reason you commit to yourself even more.

When you feel better, you do better. When you lead by example, you raise empowered children.
